USGA Handicapping Statement for BGA Members
For those that played in the BGA prior to moving to Briarcrest, tee boxes were assigned by age, gender and ability. Under USGA guidance, tee boxes are now recommended based on playing ability and level of comfort. This allows players to move around and adjust their handicap based on the player’s tee box.
- Your Handicap Index represents your demonstrated playing ability – in other words, your potential.
- Your Handicap Index travels with you, adapting to any course or set of tees. It allows golfers of different abilities and genders to compete on a level playing field.
- The GHIN application converts your Handicap Index to your Course/Playing Handicap. Refer to the GHIN Handicap Calculator.
- Your Course/Playing Handicap changes based on the tee boxes you play from since the USGA course/slope ratings or difficulty changes for each tee box. Common logic would prevail that the further up you move the easier the course, thus your handicap is reduced.
- Course/Playing Handicap represents the number of strokes you need to play to par from the tees you’ll be playing.
